Sunday chat – Baking, Gardening, Quilting from From My Carolina Home

The mountain laurel is in bloom now, and we have two large shrubs on our property. One is behind the house, the other on the edge of the meadow. I love these pink-tinged flowers with the red lines radiating from the center.

My bargain New Guinea impatiens have doubled in size and are blooming well. They seem to be very happy here. I really like the variegated coloring on the flowers.

Sunday in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

I have been too busy lately with cleaning things out, appointments and meetings, and I have not had a lot of sewing time. Yesterday I went around the property and took some pictures so I would have something to talk about today. I noticed the mountain laurel has a lot of buds, and is just coming into bloom. Some of the flowers are open, most are still closed. These are such pretty things, with clusters of pristine white flowers with little red lines emanating from the center.

Summer in the Mountains from From My Carolina Home

Summer has arrived, and with it comes activity with our car clubs. This past week, the British car club held a drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Stopping at an overlook on the way home, we couldn’t resist getting a photo of our MINI with the mountains in the distance.

The day started at a local grocery store parking lot where we gathered for the drive. It was good to catch up with friends not seen in a while.

May In the Garden from From My Carolina Home

This has been the weirdest year, with temperatures too warm through the entire winter, then just about the time I should be planting, we get overnight freezes. And while my vegetable crops did well from seeds in the basement, they didn’t survive when transplanted. I did harden them off for several nights, then put them in the planter where I usually grow tomatoes. Then we went on our MINI adventure, and the rain we were supposed to have that week didn’t come.
